A pass in H.Sc (Academic) with Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. A pass in H.Sc (Vocational Stream) with Engineering Vocational subjects and one of the related subjects like Mathematics, Physics. Diploma in one of the courses like Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, Chemical and Computer Science and Engineering. Any other equivalent qualification approved by the Annamalai University.

The exam consists of 120 objective type questions that have to be completed within 120 minutes test duration. Out of the four options, the candidate has to mark the right one in the OMR sheet provided for which he/she is awarded with 1 mark and also one mark is reduced for each wrong response. The questions of the entrance exam mainly cover the syllabus the candidate has studied in their Higher Secondary Classes. There will be questions from the core subjects i.e., Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. The question paper consists of a total of 40 questions from each paper carrying 40 marks each. AUEEE is based only on the syllabus and Text Books prescribed for the Second year of the Tamil Nadu H.Sc.

The selection of candidates for admission to the M.Phil degree programs shall be based on both a written test and an interview. The written test shall comprise objective type questions for 75 marks and examine research aptitude, grasp of the subject, intellectual ability, and general knowledge of the prospective candidates. The interview will be conducted for 25 marks.
