The Agnel Ashram Fathers felt for a long time that the expertise they gained in the field of Technical Education at Mumbai, be utilised for the benefit of the youth of Goa.
Plans bore fruit on the 4th June 1979 when Hon. Shri H.M. Patel, the then Union Home Minister laid the foundation stone of Agnel Ashram branch at Verna, Goa. Agnel Polytechnic was the first Institute to be established by Agnel Fathers at Goa in 1981. It was initially affiliated to Board of Technical Examinations, Mumbai.
The Polytechnic was started with Diploma in Production Engineering(now Mechanical), then ConstructionEngineering(1983) and then Automobile Engineering(1985). All the three programmes are of 4year duration semester system, sandwitched pattern that is with inplant training in Industries in between the semesters. This was done in an attempt to provide ready to employ technicians to the industry.
Establishment of Polytechnic at Elphinston Technical School, Dhobi Talav, Mumbai with 60 intake in Civil Engineering on 15th June, 1960.The Polytechnic acquired existing campus in May, 1985. Introduction of new diploma courses under State Government plan schemes viz. Electronics engineering and Instrumentation in 1988, Mechanical in 1989.
Implementation of World Bank assisted projects in 1990-98. Major components were capacity expansion, quality and efficiency improvement. Under this started a new course, Computer Engineering in 1992, which was awarded academic autonomy in 1990 to design, develop, implement own curriculum and issue own diploma.
Bharati Vidyapeeth, the parent body of Bharati Vidyapeeth Deemed University, is one of the largest networks of educational institutions in the country. It was established by Dr. Patangrao Kadam in 1964 when he was only 19 years old. Dr. Patangrao Kadam came from a farmer's family in remote village with no educational background. He was the first matriculate from his village. Under his visionary and dynamic leadership, Bharati Vidyapeeth expanded so rapidly that it has now 140 educational institutions of various kinds.

Somaiya Polytechnic, an Autonomous Institute, established in 1963, conducts programmes in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering and Industrial Electronics with grant-in-aid from Maharashtra Government. We also conduct Diploma Programme in Computer Engineering which is an unaided programme. Kala Vidya Mandir Institute of Technology (Polytechnic) was established in the year 2002 by Kala Vidyalaya Trust to improve need based and application oriented technical education for students and with a aim of producing high quality and excellent professionals in the field of engineering.
